Rinnai SENSEI Code 52
Gas valve fault. The PC board is not seeing the gas valve solenoid behave as it should. Rinnai's checks on the SENSEI start with the flame rod and its wiring, then the gas solenoid harness, then resistance and voltage at connector D — 18 to 22 ohms, or 11 to 13 VDC while the unit tries to fire. If the gas valve and venturi assembly are replaced, a documented button sequence on the PC board is needed before the heater returns to normal operation.

Frequently asked questions
What is the reset after the valve is replaced?
On a SENSEI: with the controller off, press the B button on the PC board once for each of t, F, S and E, then hold A and B together for ten seconds until ECL appears. If it still will not reset, Rinnai's instruction is to contact its technical support.
Is replacing the gas valve worth it?
Usually, on a unit still within its heat exchanger warranty. It changes if the heater is old, out of warranty, or has already had other combustion faults. Get the quote in writing, with the part and labour split out.
