Non-SENSEI — Modulating solenoid valve (POV) signal fault
Rinnai gives this code a different name on this generation. Here it is "Modulating Solenoid Valve Signal Abnormal (POV)" — the proportional valve that modulates gas flow, checked by unplugging the POV valve and measuring the coil resistance against the technical data sheet for that model, then checking voltage to it while the unit tries to fire. On the SENSEI generations the same number is the gas valve as a whole, with its own reset sequence on the controller; there is no such reset here.
RH180 Hybrid — Modulating solenoid valve signal fault
The signal to the modulating gas solenoid valve — the valve that varies gas flow rather than simply opening and closing it — is not right. Rinnai's remedy for the RH180 is two lines: check the modulating gas solenoid valve wiring harness for loose or damaged terminals, and measure the resistance of the valve coil.
SENSEI — Gas valve fault
The PC board is not seeing the gas valve solenoid behave as it should. Rinnai's checks on the SENSEI start with the flame rod and its wiring, then the gas solenoid harness, then resistance and voltage at connector D — 18 to 22 ohms, or 11 to 13 VDC while the unit tries to fire. If the gas valve and venturi assembly are replaced, a documented button sequence on the PC board is needed before the heater returns to normal operation.
SENSEI RX — Gas valve fault
The PC board is not seeing the gas valve solenoid behave as it should. Rinnai's checks on the SENSEI RX start with the flame rod and its wiring, then the gas solenoid harness, then voltage at connector CN9 on the board while the unit tries to fire. If the gas valve and venturi assembly are replaced, the heater needs a documented button sequence on the PC board before it will return to normal operation.
