Rinnai SENSEI Code 63
Recirculation low flow. The recirculation side is not moving enough water. On RUR and RSC models that is the built-in pump; on a plain RU it is an external setup. Rinnai's causes are mostly plumbing rather than the heater: air in the loop, a clogged inlet water or bypass filter, closed isolation valves, a loop beyond the allowed equivalent length, a leak in the house drawing air in, or a recirculation parameter set for hardware that is not connected.

Most of this code is air and filters, both free to deal with. Rinnai even lists the case where parameter 04 says a pump is connected and there is not one — a setting, not a fault. Work through the free checks; if the code survives them, the loop length or the pump needs a professional.

What you can safely check
- Check that both the cold inlet and hot outlet isolation valves under the unit are fully open.
- Purge air from the recirculation line: run hot taps until you can no longer hear air at the fixtures.
- Clean the inlet water filter — a clogged filter is on Rinnai's list and it is a ten-minute job with the water isolated.
- If no recirculation pump is connected at all, say so when you call: the code appears if parameter 04 is set as though one were fitted.

What recirculation modes does a SENSEI have?
Parameter 04 offers four: A no recirculation, B dedicated return, C crossover long loop, D crossover short loop. The short-loop option is a SENSEI feature — on the SENSEI RX, selection D is not used.
How long can the loop be?
Rinnai's stated limit is an equivalent length of 400 ft with 3/4 in. pipe, or 100 ft with 1/2 in. pipe. Past that the pump cannot maintain the flow the heater expects.
