Rinnai SENSEI RX Code 63
Recirculation low flow. The recirculation side is not moving enough water. On an RXP model that is the built-in pump; on an RX it is an external recirculation setup. Rinnai's causes are mostly plumbing rather than the heater: air in the loop, a clogged inlet water or bypass filter, closed isolation valves, a loop longer than the allowed equivalent length, a leak in the house plumbing drawing air in, or a recirculation parameter set for hardware that is not actually connected.

Most of this code is air and filters, both of which cost nothing to deal with. Rinnai even lists the case where the parameter says a pump is connected and there is not one — a setting, not a fault. What you can safely check
- Check that both the cold inlet and hot outlet isolation valves under the unit are fully open.
- Purge air from the recirculation line: run hot taps until you can no longer hear air at the fixtures.
- Clean the inlet water filter — Rinnai lists a clogged filter among the causes, and it is a ten-minute job with the water isolated.
- If the unit has no recirculation pump connected at all, say so when you call: Rinnai notes the code appears if the recirculation parameter is set as though one were fitted.
Frequently asked questions
Code 63 started right after plumbing work. Related?
Almost certainly. Air introduced into the loop is Rinnai's leading cause, and any work that drains part of the system can do it. Purging the air usually clears it.
How long is my recirculation loop allowed to be?
Rinnai's stated limit is an equivalent length of 400 ft with 3/4 in. pipe, or 100 ft with 1/2 in. pipe. Past that the pump cannot maintain the flow the heater expects.
The recirculated water is not hot enough and I get code 63.
On SENSEI RX models Rinnai's check is that pump speed is set to maximum and that recirculation flow stays above 0.4 GPM. That is a parameter a technician sets.
