Rinnai SENSEI Code 10
Air supply or exhaust blocked, or the condensate trap is full. The heater cannot move combustion air as it expects. On the SENSEI — a condensing generation — the same code also covers a backed-up condensate trap. Rinnai's causes run from a frozen or clogged condensate line and a dirty inlet air filter, through vent obstructions and equivalent-length problems, to a failing fan motor or a blocked heat exchanger.

Before anything else: if you smell gas, stop here, leave, and call your gas utility.
- Follow the condensate drain line. Kinked, clogged, or frozen where it leaves the building, it backs up into the trap and shuts the heater down.
- Clean the inlet air filter behind the front panel.
- Go outside and look at the vent terminal: snow, leaves, a nest, or a dryer vent blowing into it will all do this.
- Do not run the unit with any vent section disconnected, and do not take vent pipe apart yourself. If the code survives those checks, book a professional.

Does the condensate trap really cause this?
Yes, and Rinnai notes it applies to the SENSEI and SENSEI RX/CX water heaters specifically — the condensing generations. If the drain clogs or freezes, condensate backs up into the trap inside the cabinet and the unit stops to prevent spillage.
