Venturi blockage. Debris has built up in the venturi, the throat between the fan and the gas valve where air and gas mix. Rinnai's checks start outside the unit — the condensate drain line, then the whole intake and exhaust path — before the venturi assembly is removed from the fan motor with the gas valve and cleaned. Afterwards the SENSEI needs a specific button sequence on the PC board before it will run normally again.

What is the reset sequence on a SENSEI?
With the controller off, press the B button on the PC board once for each of t, F, S and E, then hold A and B together for ten seconds until ECL appears. The SENSEI RX uses a longer sequence starting with dES — the generations are not interchangeable here.
