Vent pipe not properly inserted. A code that exists on the NPE-2 and not on the original NPE: the heater has detected that a vent pipe is not fully seated. On a condensing appliance the vent carries flue gas, and a joint that was never pushed home is how exhaust ends up somewhere other than outside. Navien's instruction is to contact technical support.

Frequently asked questions
Would an older NPE have warned me about this?
No. The original NPE manual has no E762 — the detection was added on the NPE-2 generation. On an older unit an unseated vent joint produces no dedicated code at all, which is a reason to have vent work inspected rather than assumed.
The heater still runs. Is it safe to use until someone comes?
Do not. The whole point of the code is that the exhaust path may not be sealed, and the products of combustion include carbon monoxide.
