Rinnai RH180 Hybrid Code 11
No ignition. The burner did not light. Rinnai's checklist for the RH180 is a gas and ignition list from top to bottom: gas turned on at the heater, meter or cylinder, appliance grounding, gas type and pressure, gas line and meter sizing, air bled from the lines, dip switch settings, the igniter and its wiring harness, the gas solenoid valves, and finally the burners themselves, seated properly and free of condensation or debris. Everything after the first item is marked licensed professional only.

There is one thing to check and it takes a minute: is the gas actually on. Other gas appliances working is the fastest test. If gas is on and the RH180 still will not light, this is professional work — the rest of the list is manifold pressure, solenoid valves and the burner assembly.

What the manual says
The meaning above is transcribed from the manufacturer's diagnostic documentation for the RH180 Hybrid — not averaged across the brand.

What you can safely check
Before anything else: if you smell gas, stop here, leave, and call your gas utility.
- Check the gas is on at the heater's own shutoff, at the meter, and — on propane — that the tank is not empty.
- Try another gas appliance in the house. If nothing gas-fired works, the problem is the supply, not the heater.
- If gas has recently been off for work on the line, tell the technician: air in the line is on Rinnai's own list.
- Stop there and call a licensed professional. Everything else on this code is marked professional-only in the manual.
Frequently asked questions
Is code 11 the same on the RH180 as on a Rinnai tankless unit?
The meaning is the same — no ignition — and so is the answer: call a professional. The RH180's own list adds "remove burner cover and ensure all burners are properly seated", which is specific to this appliance's burner arrangement.
Can I just keep resetting it?
No. A heater that repeatedly tries and fails to light is a heater putting unburned gas into a combustion chamber. Rinnai's list is a diagnosis list, not a retry list.
